Radiography for
Dental Personnel Course

This review course is designed to reacquaint dental auxiliaries with the essential background material and fundamental principles for achieving radiology safety certification as mandated by Florida law. Participants will gain proficiency in intra-oral and extra-oral imaging, including panoramic techniques. This course is approved for Certification for Dental Radiographers per Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64B5-9.011.

This course includes self-study via required readings and trainings PLUS one day of in-person clinical evaluation.

  • Characteristics and Qualities of the X-Ray Tube and the Beam
  • Radiation Physics & Protection
  • Infection Control Protocols
  • Selection of the Radiographic Techniques
  • Paralleling and Bisecting the Angle Technique: Film and Sensor Placement
  • Film Processing, Mounting, & Duplication
  • Evaluation and Characteristics of Dental Images
  • Quality Control: Recognizing and Correcting Errors on Film and Digital Images
  • Extra-Oral Imaging with Panoramic Techniques.
  • Panoramic Techniques: Recognition and Correction of Positioning Errors

Admission Requirements:

  • minimum of three months of continuous on-the-job training through assisting in the positioning and exposing of dental radiographic film under the direct supervision of a Florida licensed dentist (Chapter 64B5-9.011).
  • Volunteer and shadowing experience does NOT fulfill this 3-month requirement.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • A signed acknowledgement of meeting the three months training from your supervising Dentist.
  • To participate effectively in this course, participants are expected to possess competency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language.
  • Participants may be dismissed from course if found lacking appropriate dental experience.
