Assisting Certification Course
This 20-hour Expanded Functions Certification course trains and certifies experienced dental auxiliaries to perform advanced clinical procedures approved in Florida and Georgia. The curriculum is in full compliance and adheres to Florida Statutes, Section 466.024(6) and Board of Dentistry Rule 64B5-16.005.
A brief overview of topics covered in our program:
- Laws & Rules
- Making impressions for study casts
- Topical application of fluoride (including foam & varnish)
- Placing and removing rubber dams
- Placing and removing periodontal dressings
- Polishing clinical crowns
- Placing and removing matrices
- Placing intra-coronal provisional (temporary) restorations
- Placing bases and liners
- Suture Removal & Infection Control
- Application of pit & fissure sealants
- Packing and removing retraction cord
- Fabricating provisional crowns
- Cementing provisional crowns with temporary cement
Admission Requirements:
- Have a minimum of 3 months of continuous on-the-job chairside training.
Volunteer and shadowing experience does NOT fulfill this 3-month requirement. - Be at least 18 years of age.
*Complete a signed acknowledgement of meeting the three months training from your supervising Dentist.
*To participate effectively in this course, participants are expected to possess competency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language.
*Participants may be dismissed from course if found lacking appropriate dental experience. - Purchase and Read – Essentials of Dental Assisting, 5th, 6th, or 7th Edition, Robinson and Bird, Elsevier.
